Today is #EarthDay so we want to share our passion for protecting the wild areas and our efforts for keeping them wild. We started Okwaho Outfitters with conservation as our core belief and the driving force behind our ideas. We wanted to do something unique that would help our pack of customers conserve THEIR wild areas that they know and love.
Our purpose of donating a portion of proceeds to non-profits focused on conservation is not unique but how we decide to donate the funds is. We track the shipping locations of purchases quarterly and calculate the amount of sales to specific states. We then donate a percent of sales to organizations in that specific state.
We want this to be a nationwide program while having an element of a grassroots campaign as well. People who purchase from us can know that their dollars are staying local to the wild areas they love to roam. Truly conserving THEIR wild areas and preserving these spaces for future generations is what we're passionate about.
These efforts are also what inspired our name, Okwaho Outfitters. Our founder spent his childhood being raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and being exposed to Native American cultures and lifestyles. Okwaho is of Native American origin and means Wolf. Wolves are a keystone species which means that plants and animals in that ecosystem largely depend on them. Just like wolves positively impact their ecosystem, we are striving to positively impact wild areas nationwide! #ConserveYourWild #MyParkStory #NPSConnection #HikingLife #HikingCommunity #HikingCulture
